Volunteer
Volunteer with The Soul Care
Help us build a Sri Lanka where every student's mental well-being matters. Grow while making a difference.
- Open to undergraduates
- About ten minutes to apply
- Training before you start
Two applications. One of them is yours.
The two roles ask for very different things, so they have different forms. Read what each one needs before you start, then pick the one that fits.
Volunteer roles
Four roles, one application. You can apply for more than one.
The roles
Peer Listener. Listening to students who need someone to talk to
Content Creator. Writing and designing resources students actually read
Events & Webinar Coordinator. Running webinars, events, and awareness campaigns
Social Media & Outreach. Growing our reach through social media and outreach
Before you start
- You are a psychology undergraduate
- You are comfortable in Sinhala and English. Tamil is an advantage.
- Four steps, about ten minutes
Academic Mentor
One role with its own application. Help O/L and A/L students through the exams you have already sat.
What a mentor does
Helping students with the subjects they need support with
Sharing study methods, exam tips, and encouragement
Helping students build study schedules and timetables
Sharing your own academic experience and what worked for you
Before you start
- You are an undergraduate in any field of study
- Your O/L and A/L results to hand, subject by subject
- Your WhatsApp number is shared with the students you mentor
- Three steps, about ten minutes
Student Ambassador is coming soon. Applications for it are not open yet.
Whichever you pick
True for everyone who volunteers
Who can apply
Undergraduates. You do not need previous volunteering experience, and it is completely fine if you are just starting out.
The time you give
You tell us how much time you can manage each week, and which days and times you are usually free. We work around what you put down.
Training comes first
Everyone we select completes an online training programme before taking on any responsibilities. It covers supportive listening, the scope and limits of the role, responding to student concerns, safeguarding, and referral.
Volunteers give non-clinical support
You are never expected to give mental health treatment, and you will never be asked to.
The Soul Care is not a crisis intervention service and does not provide therapy, diagnosis, or emergency mental health care. Peer listening support is non-clinical and educational in nature. If you need professional help, please contact a licensed mental health professional, a hospital, or call the National Mental Health Helpline on 1926 (free, 24/7).
